As I mentioned before, streaming services ingest about 20,000 new songs every single day, and the classification of those songs is still a manual process. We can accurately classify all songs before they are ingested into a music catalog so that they can be part of the recommendation and discovery algorithms immediately. More importantly, we can identify duplicate songs, erroneous artist profiles, and many other things.

Last, there’s this little tag thing leading us into part three, coming in around the 3:00 mark. And now we’re back to Drake, but not to the harmony fog — just a nice, clean E♭ minor loop. Even all the shouts and “yeah”s are neatly auto-tuned to E♭ minor pentatonic.

An annotated score of Berg’s Lyric Suite was discovered, which he secretly dedicated to Hanna Fuchs-Robettin, with whom he was in love. Without delving too deep, the secret meaning of the Lyric Suite also made its way into Lulu, where Berg’s special use of the two notes, H (musical German for B) and F — for “Hanna Fuchs” — made yet another example of Berg’s unique predilection for coding emotion in musical geometry.

And in 2017, Ischi paired up with YouTube sensations, the Gregory Brothers (of “Auto-Tune the News” and “Bed Intruder” fame), to produce “Chicken Attack.” Ischi stars as a Samurai-inspired, chicken-summoning warrior clad in lederhosen who harnesses “the power of nature” to fight crimes with the power of the “chicken attack.” It’s really worth the four minutes of your time:

Early in my career as an electric bassist, I was hired to play in a wedding band. Right off the bat, this meant adding thirty or so tunes from Billboard’s holy list to my existing repertoire in about three days’ time. That first gig went pretty well, and with a few hours of having new material under my belt, I figured I was through the thick of it… but no. The coming months saw a stream of strangers’ special days, each of which came with its very own, personalized collection of “Today’s Hits.” For a while there, I was learning tunes in real time (and thanks to some off-the-setlist song requests, there were definitely times when that was happening in a very literal sense). Unsurprisingly, the experience made my ear more accurate and even enhanced my melodic and harmonic vocabularies.

So, as you can see from these experiments of mine, I believe that this line of inquiry can help retrieve powerful and beautiful ideas from a venerable worldview that is strange to us, having gotten the short end of Enlightenment thinking. I think this perspective can ground us in deep cultural roots, offering us immense creative potential for our current moment, and I’m curious to see what others working in this capacity will bring to the table in the future! Perhaps it’ll be you.

Door splits are pretty simple, I typically give the headliner 75% if there is only one opener, and 60% if there are two. Guarantees can be a bit more tricky. You’ll need to be pretty confident about a band’s past numbers in order to make sure you’re not left paying more than you earn at the door. Their booking agent should be able to give you an estimate of what they bring in locally, and so should the venue representative if they’ve worked with them before. But remember that marketing and promotion can also play a huge role in getting your numbers up (so we’ll cover that one below!).

Now, if we apply the same reasoning to all the other modes, we would see that the differences between the modes and their respective Major or Minor counterparts is often only one note (with one exception, which we will see shortly).

This should come as no surprise, but if you’re trying to stay hydrated, you’ve got to lay off the booze. Excess alcohol consumption decreases the body’s anti-diuretic hormone production, which is what helps the body reabsorb water. In other words, it causes your body to lose more fluid than normal through increased urination.

Prechoruses can either be repeated before each chorus (and used occasionally as a bridge) or they can be taken out after they are used the first time. Either works just fine, as long as you build your song around its use with intention. The prechorus is an important tool for writers to test out in order to tie any loose ends together, or add new melodic hooks in to beef the song’s singability up. Definitely take the time to experiment with this form.
